Brookestone of Papillion Credited with 2013 Best Programming Award
On April 29th, 2014 Brookestone of Papillion was honored with the 2013 Best Programming Award for National Nursing Home Week at the NNFA/NALA Spring Convention. The theme for National Nursing Home Week 2013 was “Team Care” with the subtheme “Everyone Pitches In”. It was the third time in the past four years that Brookestone of Papillion received this prestigious award converting to a 3-1 record for team Brookestone of Papillion.
Life Enrichment staff coordinated a week of baseball-themed fun for residents, families, and the community. We kicked off NNHW on Mother’s Day with a combined party and worship service. Chaplain Bud shared the message entitled “God’s Team”. During his message, the Life Enrichment team members rounded the “stadium” bases in our dining room. Our residents and guests enjoyed the afternoon at our “ballpark” with everyone cheering on our “Team Care”!
Other activities throughout the week included the opportunity for our residents to eat breakfast with the Papillion Police and Fire Departments as we saluted and thanked them for all that they do. Papillion Mayor David Black, former Administrator Roz Burke, Chef Doug Taylor, Chaplain Bud Bunn, and Vetter Senior Living employee Dani Hearron each received a pie in the face during our “Pie Toss Social”. Also appearing at the social was Storm Chaser mascot, Casey, cheering on the winners of the raffle baskets. Other activities included a rendition of “Casey at the Bat”, a baseball toss, and carnival.
In addition, baseballs were provided to local schools, businesses, volunteers, and employees to decorate creatively. The baseballs were transformed into animals, barbells, flowers, and vegetables. As an outreach to the Papillion community, donated items were collected, raffle baskets were formed, and tickets were sold to benefit our local Papillion Recreation Organization. With the whole team pitching in, we were able to exceed our goal and raise $1,250 for PRO. Residents and employees attended a PRO baseball game and presented the check for monies raised from the raffle to the coaches. When “everyone pitches in” we are truly able to provide the best “team care” to our residents and support our community.
